Job Description: Digital Forensics Supervisor
Position Overview:
The Digital Forensics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of digital forensic investigations within the Law and Criminal Justice department, specifically in the area of forensic science. This role requires expert knowledge and experience in digital forensics techniques, tools, and methodologies to ensure the successful identification, preservation, and analysis of digital evidence. The Digital Forensics Supervisor will lead a team of digital forensic analysts, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise to ensure the highest standards of forensic investigation are met.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage a team of digital forensic analysts, providing mentorship, guidance, and technical support throughout the investigation process.
2. Oversee the entire digital forensics investigation lifecycle, including evidence identification, collection, preservation, analysis, and reporting.
3. Develop and implement standardized procedures and protocols for digital forensic investigations to ensure consistency and adherence to industry best practices and legal requirements.
4. Conduct complex and advanced digital forensic analysis on various electronic devices, such as computers, mobile devices, servers, and storage media, in order to extract and interpret digital evidence.
5. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as law enforcement agencies, legal teams, and IT departments, to facilitate the timely and accurate exchange of digital evidence and investigative findings.
6. Stay updated with the latest developments, trends, and emerging technologies in the field of digital forensics, and ensure the team is equipped with the necessary skills and tools to effectively perform their duties.
7. Maintain accurate documentation of all digital forensic investigations, including evidence handling, chain of custody, and analysis reports.
8. Assist in the preparation of expert testimony and provide support during legal proceedings, including court appearances, depositions, or hearings, if required.
9. Conduct internal audits and quality assurance procedures to ensure the integrity and accuracy of digital forensic processes and findings.
10. Collaborate with the HR department to participate in the recruitment and selection process of digital forensic analysts, ensuring that qualified candidates are selected for employment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Computer Science, Digital Forensics, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital forensics, with a focus on criminal investigations and forensic analysis.
3. In-depth knowledge of digital forensics techniques, tools, and methodologies, including acquisition, preservation, analysis, and reporting.
4. Familiarity with industry-standard forensic software tools, such as EnCase, FTK, Cellebrite, X-Ways, etc.
5. Strong understanding of computer networks, operating systems, file systems, and various digital storage media.
6. Proficient in the interpretation and analysis of digital evidence, including email communications, social media data, internet history, and encrypted data.
7. Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex and multifaceted digital forensic challenges.
8. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
9. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high-performance standards.
10. Sound knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and legal procedures related to digital forensics and evidence handling.
